Canvas Cocoons

Luxury Safari Tents

Set in an arc on a hillside overlooking the Galapagos National Park and the Pacific Ocean, our nine luxury Safari Tents (including two Family Safari Tents) look from above like little canvas cocoons nestled in the vast wilderness. And that is essentially what they are.

Covered by three layers of canvas, they offer shelter and comfort, yet are exposed to the natural world you have come to explore and immerse yourself in. Their private balcony decks, perfect for some hammock-time, give way to spacious, stylish rooms decorated in tasteful safari-style simplicity.

Ensuite bathrooms include showers with solar-powered hot water and flushable toilets and all the tents contain several electrical sockets for charging cameras and devices.

Our Safari Tents can be set up as double, twin or triple, and are included in your Safari experience.

Family Suite

Ideal for multigenerational families and those travelling with younger children, our three-bedroom Family Suite sleeps six. It features a master bedroom and two twin rooms, all with their own bathrooms. Its wooden furniture and floorboards blend perfectly with the natural environment and give it a warm, homely feel, perfect for travelling broods.

Secluded from the lodge and Safari Tents, the Family Suite’s expansive deck, makes the perfect spot for enjoying the view, sunset and making friends with visiting finches, while listening to the rustle of the breeze in the trees. While parents unwind upstairs, little ones can have fun in the playroom downstairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Safari Tents and Family Suites are there in total?
+

We have nine Safari Tents in total, two of which are Family Safari Tents.

We have one Family Suite.

Can I book the accommodation without the Safari experience?
+

All our accommodation is included in the overall Safari experience and is not available to book separately.

We do, however, offer a Relaxing Pre/Post Cruise Safari, designed for guests who wish to rest at Camp after a long journey to the islands, or after an intense cruise itinerary before heading home.

Will I need air-conditioning in the Galapagos?
+

Most likely not. Galapagos Safari Camp is located in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, where the climate is generally cool and breezy for most of the year. Our tents are carefully orientated to catch the natural air currents and are equipped with ceiling fans for additional comfort during the warmer months.

There is a brief window—typically a couple of weeks during the Warm & Wet season—when temperatures and humidity can rise. Some guests find the nights warmer during this period, while others remain perfectly comfortable. In the cooler months, we often light a fire in the main lodge and provide hot water bottles in the tents.

We haven’t simply opted out of air conditioning—we’ve designed the entire Camp around not needing it. From the outset, we chose canvas tents over concrete buildings to keep our footprint light and to avoid the need for energy-intensive cooling systems. Most of the island’s energy is still fossil-fuel based and brought in on diesel-powered ships, so minimising consumption, wherever and however we can, simply made practical sense. Our Family Suite is the only accommodation with the option for air conditioning, as it is a three-bedroom, brick-and-mortar structure that cannot benefit from the natural air currents in the same way our canvas tents can.

If heat is a personal concern, shifting travel dates to avoid the seasonal spike can make all the difference. We believe that small, thoughtful choices, made early in the planning process, can have a meaningful long-term impact. After all, these decisions are part of how we collectively protect the Galapagos—and the planet at large—from the climate extremes we’re beginning to see.

Do the Safari Tents have private bathrooms?
+

All our Safari Tents include fully equipped bathrooms with hot water showers powered by solar energy and flushable toilets.

Do the Safari Tents have electricity?
+

Yes – the electricity at the lodge and in all tents is 110 volt, 50 hertz, 2 flat-pronged US plugs (same as in the USA).

What amenities are included?
+
  • Tea & Coffee
  • Drinking water
  • Phone to reception
  • Hairdryer
  • Safe
  • Wardrobe
  • Desk and chair
  • Plug sockets: 4 PER ROOM / 1 in BATHROOM
  • Biodegradable soap, shampoo & conditioner

Are the tents easily accessible from the main lodge?
+

The tents are connected to the main lodge by a gently sloping path with several steps, requiring a reasonable level of mobility. Guests who may find this challenging might prefer our Family Suite, which is located adjacent to the main lodge and does not require any stair access.

Do the tents have WiFi?
+

Yes, complimentary WiFi is available throughout most of the Camp, including the Main Lodge, Family Suite and all Safari Tents.
