In its June 2007 issue, Condé Nast Traveller explores how two couples left England to build new lives shaped by travel, with a focus on safari experiences in South America and Africa.
“We cycled around Santa Cruz and found a farm with 360-degree views.”
The article follows Stephanie Bonham-Carter and Michael Mesdag as they establish Galapagos Safari Camp in the highlands of Santa Cruz. Drawn to the islands through personal travel, they discovered a farm with expansive views and began developing what would become one of the first tented safari-style experiences in the Galapagos.
At the time of publication, the Camp was in its early stages, with a central lodge and a small number of tents designed to adapt to the local highland climate. The piece highlights the founders’ hands-on approach and the breadth of experiences available to guests, from walking and birdwatching to cycling and diving.
