Overview: The Experience

We make our way to northern Quito, to the Guayasamín Foundation Museum. Here guests are welcomed through a private entrance into the former residence of Oswaldo Guayasamín, Ecuador’s most celebrated contemporary painter, who died in 1999.

The complex includes the Chapel of Man, one of the artist’s crowning achievements: a symmetrical stone pyramid perched high on a hill overlooking Quito’s valleys. Stunning story-high murals hang in its galleries, stark tributes to the people of Latin America.

We have time to explore the residence-museum to find out more about the man and his painting, admiring his own collection of artworks as well as an ample perspective of his oeuvre.

Within the Guayasamín residence, we are treated to a chocolate tasting experience with the Ecuadorian brand To’ak.

The company employs the oldest and rarest variety of cacao on earth to confection extremely limited editions of single-origin Ecuadorian dark chocolate. Its flagship creation was aged for four years in a French oak cognac cask and is considered the most valuable chocolate in the world. To’ak is pioneering the way the world experiences dark chocolate, elevating its making and tasting to the level of fine wine and aged whisky.

An expert To’ak chocolate ambassador will guide us through the tasting session where we can learn more about the crop, its importance in Ecuador’s history, and of course, savour the amazing flavours that the beans can produce when created by passionate experts.

We also offer a To’ak Chocolate Tasting Experience at Galapagos Safari Camp.
