The Hotel
Hotel del Parque has one of the more remarkable stories in Ecuadorian hospitality. Originally located in Guayaquil’s city centre, the 19th-century building was threatened with demolition in the 1980s and dismantled and moved — piece by piece — to its current home within the grounds of Parque Histórico. There it was reassembled and restored, and today operates as a Relais & Châteaux property surrounded by gardens, wildlife and the quiet of the park.
Only ten minutes from the airport, the hotel makes a natural first or last stop on a Galapagos journey. It’s close enough to the city for restaurants and shops, but removed enough to feel like an arrival rather than a transit.
The Restaurant
Dining at Hotel del Parque draws on the coastal traditions of Ecuador’s Pacific region, with an excellent kitchen and the kind of setting — garden terraces, colonial interiors — that makes a meal unhurried. It is considered one of the finer dining experiences in the city.
