Hacienda La Danesa

For guests who want to step away from the city entirely, Hacienda La Danesa is a 1,200-acre working farm on Ecuador’s Pacific coast. it is owned and run by the Olsen family, who open their doors to a small number of travelers looking for an authentic, unhurried experience away from the tourist trail.

Hacienda La Danesa works equally well as an alternative to a city stay in Guayaquil or as a complement to it. Guests can combine a full day in the city with two or three nights at the hacienda before continuing to the Galapagos.

Garden Cottage at Hacienda La Danesa

Set within teak forests, cacao fields and the banks of three rivers, La Danesa has been a working estate for 165 years. The Olsen family welcomes guests with the warmth of a private home. Arrivals are met at Guayaquil Airport and transferred directly to the hacienda, approximately 90 minutes away.

Accommodation is in restored stables, a family garden cottage, or a garden cottage, each reflecting the character of the estate rather than the anonymity of a hotel.

All meals are included — breakfast, lunch and dinner — drawing on the produce of the farm and the coastal traditions of the region.

Churute Mangroves

For guests with a full day to spare, the Churute Mangroves Ecological Reserve lies 30 miles from the hacienda. Protecting 123,500 acres of coastline, it contains the largest expanses of red and black mangroves in Ecuador. The day begins with a boat ride down the coast and into the tributaries of the reserve — one of the more distinctive natural experiences available from this part of Ecuador. This excursion can be arranged as an additional day during your stay.
